Perfection is Subversion: Jeff Koon

If art functions for inspiration, the works of Jeff Koon are definitely art which question and inspire people about art through perfection of commercial object to blur the line of commercial and art. Such inspiration is subversive.

Taken the heart above as an instance. It is 100% of commercial symbol but it is way beyond perfect than any commercial operation on this symbol before. It is perfect like only in a dream. If you know the material is stainless steel, you would wonder how could it be created by human hands. Google Jeff Koon's balloon dog, also made of stainless material, it is also perfect. It could sustain extreme meticulous examination. No defect. Now, you would realize Jeff Koon successfully creates an unusual experience. An experience that an object's perfection is speechless art itself, even it is hardcore commercial cliché.

Such perfection is definitely an ambivalence, thus a subversion. Just like a human who is a man and also a woman. Jeff Koon fundamentally subverts art itself. You know it is a commercial symbol, but you can not resist its shocking beauty. Such subversion is intellectually fun and visually joy. He ultimately leads us to a new way to judge art in our mind. And the heart above is the expression of how I feel about his work. I love it.
